What Is a DTF Gang Sheet, and Why Does It Save Money?

A DTF gang sheet is a single large polyester print sheet — 22 inches wide, available in 24", 48", or 96" lengths — onto which we print multiple designs at once. Instead of ordering, say, 20 separate 4"x4" DTF transfers, you order one gang sheet packed with 20 designs at a much lower per-design cost. Gang sheets are how most print-on-demand businesses, Etsy sellers, and custom apparel shops actually buy DTF in volume.

How Gang Sheet Pricing Beats Fixed-Size Transfers

Gang sheet pricing is based on total sheet area, not per-design count. Our gang sheet rates are:

• 22" x 24" gang sheet: $28.00 — about $0.053 per square inch
• 22" x 48" gang sheet: $48.00 — about $0.045 per square inch
• 22" x 96" gang sheet: $85.00 — about $0.040 per square inch

Compare against fixed-size transfers. A 4" x 4" transfer (16 sq in) costs $1.50, or about $0.094 per square inch — almost double the gang sheet rate. The bigger gang sheet you order, the cheaper per square inch, and the cheaper per design.

Concrete Example

You need 20 copies of a 4" x 4" design.

• Option A — 20 fixed transfers: 20 × $1.50 = $30.00
• Option B — Gang sheet: 4" designs with 0.25" spacing fit 5 across × 5 rows = 25 per 22" x 24" sheet. Order 1 × 22"x24" = $28.00 for 25 transfers (you get 5 extra at no cost). Save $2.00 plus get 5 bonus prints.

For higher quantities the gang sheet advantage grows substantially. 100 copies of the same 4"x4" design: 4 sheets × $28 = $112 (saving $38 vs $150 in fixed transfers).

When Fixed-Size Transfers Still Win

Gang sheets are not always cheaper. Fixed-size transfers win when:

• You need very few of one design. 3 transfers of a small design might just cost $4.50 (3 x $1.50) — cheaper than a $28 gang sheet that would only be 10% full.
• Your design fits a small standard size. A 2" x 2" transfer is $0.50. For 10 pieces, that's $5.00 total. A gang sheet would not beat this.
• You need each design on its own backing. Gang sheets ship as one sheet; you cut/separate the designs yourself. Fixed transfers come pre-cut.

How the Layout Algorithm Works

For each design size and quantity, the optimizer calculates:

Designs Per Row

cols = floor((sheet_width + gap) / (design_width + gap))

For a 4" design with 0.25" gap on a 22" sheet: floor((22 + 0.25) / (4 + 0.25)) = floor(22.25 / 4.25) = 5 designs per row.

Rows Per Sheet

rows = floor((sheet_height + gap) / (design_height + gap))

For the same 4" design on a 24" sheet: floor((24 + 0.25) / (4 + 0.25)) = 5 rows. Total: 5 x 5 = 25 designs per sheet.

Rotation Optimization

For non-square designs, the algorithm tries both orientations and picks the one that fits more designs. A 3" x 5" design might fit 6 per row in landscape but only 4 per row in portrait — the optimizer chooses landscape automatically.

Sheet Selection

For your quantity, the optimizer calculates how many sheets at each size you need, multiplied by sheet price, then picks the cheapest combination.

Real-World Gang Sheet Use Cases

Print-on-Demand Apparel Businesses

The bread and butter of gang sheets. You sell 5 different t-shirt designs on Shopify. Each design has 4 to 8 weekly orders. Instead of ordering 4 small transfers of each design weekly, you order one 22"x48" gang sheet packed with all 5 designs × 8 prints each = 40 total transfers for one $48 order. Per-design cost: $1.20. Wins on cost, wins on shipping consolidation.

Bridal Party and Event Shirts

You need 12 different name/role shirts for a bachelorette party. Order a 22"x24" gang sheet with all 12 designs ($28 total = $2.33 per design) instead of 12 fixed transfers ($14.40 each at 11"x14" = $172 total). Saves $144 on a single order.

Sports Team Jerseys

20 player names + 20 numbers on the back, plus 1 team logo on the front (× 20 jerseys = 20 logos). Gang sheet packs all 60 transfers (names + numbers + logos) onto one sheet. The savings vs ordering each transfer fixed-size are dramatic.

Design Tips for Maximizing Gang Sheet Efficiency

Pack Tightly

Use the 0.25" minimum gap between designs (the optimizer's default). Tighter gaps risk bleed between adjacent designs during heat application.

Rotate Designs to Fit

If you have a 5" x 3" design that does not fit 4-across, try rotating to 3" x 5" — you may fit 7-across in the other orientation. The optimizer does this automatically.

Mix Sizes Within a Sheet

Order the Largest Sheet That Makes Sense

The 96" sheet has the cheapest per-square-inch rate. If you have enough volume to justify a 96" sheet over a 24" sheet, order it — the bulk savings are significant.

DTF Production Specs and Lead Times

All DTF gang sheets are produced at our Canadian facility on the same 305°F-application transfer film as our fixed-size DTF transfers. Wash durability, fabric compatibility, and colour reproduction are identical to fixed-size DTF — only the format differs.

Production Time

Standard production: 2 to 3 business days from order placement. Rush production (next business day) is available on most gang sheet orders for an additional fee.

Shipping

Gang sheets ship flat in protective packaging. Standard ground shipping across Canada is 3 to 7 business days. Free standard shipping on orders over $300 — most multi-sheet gang sheet orders cross that threshold easily.

What You Receive

Gang sheets ship as a single roll or flat sheet. You cut between designs (we leave the 0.25" gap as a cut margin). Each cut design becomes an independent transfer ready for heat application.
